Bitumen Is refined from the leftover product of crude oil.

The main use of bitumen is in road construction, where it is used as the join or bind to mixed with aggregate particles to make asphalt concrete. 

Bitumen is can be used for waterproofing and sealing roofs and boats and coating buildings. In technology, bitumen plates are used to muffle sounds in machines such as computers and dishwashers.

Early photography, bitumen was spread on pewter plates and then exposed to light, resulting in black and white images being formed.
